OWLA Monthly Meeting – Dr. Paul Torrisi
January 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The OWLA public forum on January 6 will welcome Dr. Paul Torrisi, President of the Skaneateles Lake Association.
Dr. Torrisi, a retired ophthalmologist/retinal surgeon, has led the SLA for eleven years. His presentation starting at 7 pm on Zoom will highlight the SLA’s ongoing aggressive prevention and control of aquatic invasive species, watershed projects to reduce erosion runoff into the lake, and applied research to advance understanding of the causes of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the environment of Skaneateles Lake. Paul will talk about new technologies the SLA is exploring such as sedimentation measuring boxes placed on the bottom of the lake and flying drones after storms to monitor stream mouth plumes and to even take water samples from the plumes. Paul also will demonstrate features of an exciting new tool called the Skaneateles Lake StoryMap.
Questions will be welcomed. We hope you will accept this invitation to watch and participate.
As always, the public is welcome. Please attend and participate via the Zoom online meeting app
