OWLA conducted a 3 year water sampling campaign focused on finding upstream sites losing excessive phosphorus and/or nitrogen nutrients. With the active participation of the owner of the Twin Birch CAFO, OWLA sampled sites where waters enter the farm, flow across the farm, and exist the farm into Dutch Hollow Brook. Dutch Hollow Brook in turn empties into Owasco Lake.

Lab chemistry analyses of the water samples found no excessive nutrients being lost from the farmstead which means the farm is operating at a high level of economic efficiency. This briefing report focuses on the practices this large dairy farm follows to achieve and maintain its competitive and environmentally sound sustainability.
